Citizens for Batman in NYC

Thank you [info]_toxicmoxy for the heads up, because this was great.

From the start of the gathering point, two women with Gotham City Times newspaper bags were giving out t-shirts, then newspapers, then more t-shirts. If you were late for the papers and some white dude with a pile of them was giving them out, that was most likely me. I had them passed off to me when they had to go back (to get more t-shirts I guess).

Then came two guys with ATTENTION PRODUCT PLUG ATTENTION Domino's Pizza Bozes ATTENTION PRODUCT PLUG ATTENTION that had a clue in it to go to the food court and find the next clue.

Some dude in a batman mask found a lock, and when opened had a note that said to go to the fountain on Centre Street and look west. Once everyone was there, giant ass batman shot from the Pace building to another building (Woolworth I think? At least the Wiki says so.), and that was it. Or at least when I left.

A highlight of the evening was some guy who was probably just in the park, somehow ended up with a bunch of people following him. He was able to get them all to go in a subway station and hop turnstiles to follow him for a clue. Best red herring ever. Me being the perfect citizen ever used my Metrocard to get in. Shame on those felons who hopped the turnstile!

Save for the red herring subway invasion, I think so.

Was still a fun way to spend a Tuesday night.

Definitely glad I went. AGH! I've been wanting to go to something for a while and just haven't been able to today. :) Although, I was hoping for more than just the batman symbol. Oh well!

Honestly I was just expecting some batmany thing (spotlight with a dude in a batman suit on a roof or a symbol or something) and some free swag.

Good job to batman mask for finding the lock at least. That'll be a fun thing to bring home. Stupid me for checking under the bench right next to him.

I totally forgot that this was tonight. I would have been a good citizen, also. The fine for jumping the turnstile just increased to $100.

I definitely feel bad for the two people working that station tonight, then. They kinda just let everyone storm the place. I mean what else could they have done themselves.

I do have to give credit to the security guards in the Woolworth building though. One of them tipped us off that for some reason the top floors were just asked to turn their lights off, so if we're looking for something that may be it, but then also had to start going "look I'm just a guard not part of whatever go away I can't let you in the building good lord damn"

So why where we all running down Broadway & Park Row like maniacs, again???

I mean, it was fun to be in a gang of 300 people or so blocking traffic, but still. Did someone screw up a clue or something?

Still had a good time and all, but I'm wondering. It was cathartic, seeing that Bat-Signal on the Woolworth Building. For a second there I felt like a little kid pretending to be in Gotham City again.
=)

Lots of people we running off chasing who knows what. The problem with ARGs is that everyone considers everything a clue*

(*me included. I found some plasticy black tab on the floor at the meetup spot with a police-shield-looking thing on one side and some letters on the other, but instead of going "oh look garbage" I put it in my pocket BECAUSE IT MAY BE A WEBSITE CLUE FOR SOMETHING IMPORTANT I HELP BATMAN YAY)

I got nothing! So disappointed that they didn't anticipate the number of people! My highlight of the evening: as we were cutting traffic, people came out of buildings and yelled "what's going on?" The crowd shouted back several replies about Batman, the bystanders asked "there's a batman? in new york city?!"

Awesome.

Also 300 people cutting traffic with cabbies yelling "Hey! you want me to kill you???"

Oh geez the rush to the park was a disaster.

I was very happy that I got to yell "GET OFF THE LAWN. THE NON GOTHAM POLICE WILL TICKET YOU"

The marketing for this movie is brilliant.

I'm really regretting that I just didn't get involved with all the ARG stuff that was leading up to this. Same goes for Cloverfield, although I think this had a lot more "going outside and looking around" stuff.

Man, I wish I was still in NY for this. I got some Harvey Dent stuff at the pillow fight in March. I've been rocking the pin for the last month.
